3 month post LASIK checkup

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

I had my 3 month LASIK checkup last week. I had thought my eyes were doing better and the checkup proved it. My right eye is seeing a “good” 20/20 now. She said the right eye is down to 0 prescription. My left eye is a decent 20/25. She told me that last time it had been a slightly blurry 20/30. She said I still have a little bit of nearsightedness and little bit of astigmatism remaining in that eye. And the left eye is still more irritable than right and the quality of vision is very dependent on how wet/dry that eye is. I see great after putting drops in and it slowly wears off a few minutes later. So I have hope that it will continue to improve. The doctor was a bit surprised that eyes had improved, most people are pretty much the same at the 1 and 3 month appointments. So no talk of enhancements since they are still changing. I am hoping the left eye will improve a little more and then I won’t be tempted to do an enhancement. ;-)

Problem in the Bathroom

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

We attended a party at a friend’s house over the weekend.  Many of the people there were French, so we were actually preparing Ella for the fact that a lot of the kids would speak English as a second language so she would be understanding if they didn’t understand her right away, but it seems as though we should have prepared her for more mundane things.  A couple hours into the party the host found us and said that Ella was, “Having trouble in the bathroom.”

Turns out she wanted to wash her hands but, seeing no soap, wasn’t sure what to do.  Well, there was soap, but she had never seen *bar* soap before and had no idea what it was.  Poor Ella!

Are these tears??

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

6 week post Lasik my right eye seems to be starting to produce it’s own tears, yeah!! I can blink a few times and feel a little bit of moisture in that eye that was not artificially introduced with eye drops. So it seems that my right eye has started regenerating the nerves that were cut during lasik. Left eye is still more bothersome. It seems to be several weeks behind the right in terms of recovery.

I have also been driving a lot without my glasses the past week, it has been so sunny lately that I needed the sunglasses more. No headaches! Distant road signs are still a bit more blurry than I would like so if I was driving somewhere new I would probably still wear my prescription glasses.

1 month after Lasik

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

I had my one month post lasik checkup the end of last week. It was about what I expected based on how I was seeing. My eyes were definitely not any worse and better than a few weeks ago especially when they are not tired or dry. I was able to read the 20/20 line with my right eye, the 20/25 line with my left eye, and 20/20 with both eyes open. But even though I could read the lines they weren’t as crisp as they could be. The doctor went though the whole “which is better 1 or 2, 3 or 4″ thing and came up with about with about the same perscription as last time, just a pinch better. I also had my checkup in the afternoon and I have noticed my vision is best in the morning. My right eye is not very dry anymore and left eye is better but still more irritable and drier than the right. Next appointment is in two more months which will be 3 months post surgery. The doctor did say if she had to guess she would think my vision would be about the same but more consistant throughout the day at that point. In which case I may have to think about an enhancement, especially for the left eye. But who knows how I will feel at that point.

1 week Lasik checkup

Friday, February 17th, 2012

So it has been a long week. Some days were better than other, my vision was all over the place – things would be clear and then I would blink and then they were blurry. At points I doubted my decision to get the surgery. My eyes were really dry for the first 5 days or so and now seem to be getting a little better after stopping the steroid and antibiotic drops. I can now go 30-40 minutes without needing artificial tear drops and my vision has stabilized but does degrade slightly in the evening. I was also told no more googles at night, yeah!

The day after the surgery I tested at 20/20 in the right eye and 20/25 in the left. I’m not quite sure I believe that since my vision was so unstable at that point, but I could read the lines somewhat.

Yesterday the assistant tested my eyes at 20/20 in the right and 20/40 in the left, which was about what I was expecting based on my vision but it was still disappointing to hear. I can still read really well and now I can work on the computer which I couldnt’ do before the surgery. My distance vision is still not all there, I can drive but can’t really read the street signs until I am right on top of them. This has been giving me major eye strain headaches if I have to drive more than 10 minutes. When the optometrist rechecked my left eye I also questioned the 20/20 reading in my right eye, I could read the letters but they were blurry. I think it was really more like 20/25. They gave me some glasses (yes, if you spend $4000 on eye surgery they will have you a pair of $100 glasses for free) so that I can drive without pain and they even rushed the order for me to get them the next day. SO MUCH BETTER!! No headaches driving today. As a side note you only need to be 20/40 to pass your drivers test and that scares me somewhat. I was testing at 20/40 and would not feel comfortable driving if I didn’t know exactly where I was going.

My eyes are still healing so there is a chance they will get better in the next month or two. So I have hope that my right eye will improve to a good 20/20, I’ll have to wait and see on the left. I may need to make a decision about an enhancement at the 3 month mark. So far I am satisified but not pleased with the surgery since I can function without glasses/contacts but it would be so much better if I didn’t need any glasses.

Ella’s checkup

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

Ella did great at her checkup this week. Her emotional meltdowns are normal for the age. Luckily they don’t happen too often. She did have to get 3 shots in preparation for kindergarten. Poor Ella! But she did get 2 stickers instead of just 1 for her pain.
