1 crawling step

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Abby is really working on the crawling. If she could will herself to crawl she would be crawling by now. She gets up on her hands and knees and concentrates really hard and then gets frustrated and cries when she only goes 1 step forward and falls. Perhaps her older (by 2 weeks) cousin Rhory will show her how it’s done at Grammie’s house today. I have heard that Rhory mastered the art of crawling this weekend.

Do princesses . . .

Play outside in a sandbox?
Eat sandwiches for lunch?
Dance with pants on?

These are just a few of the princess questions that Ella has asked me in the past week. She is obsessed. She now LOVES to wear dresses when just a few months ago I could only get her to wear “soft” pants. I asked her if she wanted to be a princess for Halloween and she gave me a long convoluted answer. I think she was basically telling me she didn’t want to be a princess for Halloween because she is already a princess now.

Trip to Altamont

Monday, September 20th, 2010

Abby, Ella and Mommy took a trip to visit Grandma Mindy and Grandpa Greg last weekend. Daddy stayed home to put up the new sandbox and help put a garage door opener in at Grammie Carol and Grandpa Fred’s new house. A fun time was had by all.

On Saturday we went to the Apple and Wine festival at the Altamont fairgrounds where Grandma Mindy spoiled Ella with playing on the bounce houses AND a pony ride. Abby slept for most of the time but woke up in time to eat lunch.

Ella had a great time going to the post office to get the mail and going to church to make a copy with Grandpa Greg. And she, Grandma Mindy and Abby played with all of mommy and uncle Mark’s old toys.

This is a picture that Daddy took today during Abby’s late afternoon power nap. Lately she has been taking 2 longish naps during the day, a short power nap around dinner time, getting up to eat/play for an hour and then going back to bed.

Poor Ella

Monday, September 13th, 2010

It’s been 3 1/2 days since Ella hit her nose on Abby’s bookshelf and here is what it looks like now. The swelling is going down but now it is that lovely yellow-green color.

“I call her Abby and …”

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

” Daddy calls her stupid.”

This is what Ella told the doctor yesterday. The doctor was looking at Ella’s nose (more on that in a minute) and asking her questions to distract her. One of the questions she asked her was “What is your sister’s name” Ella told her “Abigail Grace. But I call her Abby and Daddy calls her stupid” The look of shock and a little bit of horror on Jeremy’s face was priceless. The doctor kiddingly told him that she would have to call child protective services for that verbal abuse.

Ella’s nose – Yesterday morning I was in Abby’s room feeding her after her morning nap. Ella came in and I told her to go get dressed because we were going to go to the mall to get her some more pants now that the weather was colder. She came in and was trying to get her dress on, tripped and fell right into Abby’s bookshelf. When I looked at her nose you could see the line where she hit the edge of the shelf and her nose looked a little squished. No bloody nose surprisingly but I think she swallowed some blood. It was hard to get her to answer me. I took her into the doctor’s office (daddy met us there) to get it looked at. She doesn’t think it is broken but we will have to see what it looks like when the swelling goes down. It is pretty red and I told her it might turn purple in a day or two. She thought that purple would be pretty. It doesn’t seem to be bothering her now unless you ask her about it and then she will start crying.

Go Vikings!

Mommy has to work on Thursday so I had to take the picture on Wednesday, hopefully that won’t mess with the good luck. :-) Mommy needs Grandpa, I mean Favre, to do well for her fantasy team.

Writing her name

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

We have been working on recognizing and writing letters with Ella. Last night while we were getting dinner ready she made the following with no prompting from us. It is the first time she has written her name with all the letters in the correct order on her own. And decorate with a flower that mommy had cut out earlier in the day. Yeah Ella!

Crawling? and Biting

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Abby is trying so hard to crawl these days. But she can’t quite get all of her body off the ground. She will either push her chest off the ground (and not her butt) or get her butt off the ground (and not her chest). The latter is especially funny to watch as she keeps pushing harder with her feet and her chest/head keep pushing harder into the ground and she is not getting any closer to the object she wants. I’ve tried to get it on video but everytime I get the camera she stops. Ella must be giving her lessons since she does the same thing when I try to get a video of her dancing.

Abby’s other new thing is using her new sharp little baby teeth to bite. Ouch! And I refuse to feel badly when she starts to cry after I tell her “No Bite!” while she is eating and I can tell she is getting ready to bite. After I say it she will look at me and then her bottom lip starts to quiver before she cries. Luckily she doesn’t try it too often or else she would have to learn to like formula! ;-)
